Session 8
One body Cursed with two souls
The beasts of the woods are more than just a rabid pack of animals on the loose...
Part I: Stanley's Store
Crossing a bridge, Cyrell find a glorious opportunity to get in touch once again with Stanley. He seeks to gain additional knowledge and power, even going as far as to become Stanley's personal assistant as part of the deal. Stanley, however, is unsure that he needs this and denies Cyrell's deal. They do however bargin for a discounted bag of holding named dimmic the mimic. Dimmic requires feeding every few hours or he will eat one random item contained within the bag. Stanley generously provides 3 food pellets for Dimmic that will hold him over for some time all for the bargain price of 600 gold pieces, and seeing as how the party is short on gold he says once they cumulatively obtain the 600 gold he will be around to collect. Cyrell also takes Stanley up on his offer of race changing potions. Cyrell settles on the Elixir of Elladrin and changes his race from human to a summer Elladrin.
Part II: Expert Trackers
The party leaves on relatively good terms with Stanley and their new "partner" Dimmic. They resume their hunt to find a set of wolf tracks. Cyrell blindly stares into the dirt, unable to find anything. Zephyr looks around to no avail, and Twitch enthusiastically sees an opportunity to prove his worth to the rest of the party. He puts his nose to the dirt and begins sniffing. Tastes some, analyzes it closely, and then things he finds the tracks they are looking for. Keeping his eye on the ground he sprints in the direction that they seemingly go in but quickly loses control of his legs ragdolling into Zephyr knocking both of them into mud. Any trace of the tracks that might have been there were surely ruined. finds a druid named Kaevin who intentionally misleads them. The party decides to head off in a random direction following a faint dirt path that cuts through the forest. Large coniferous trees flank either side with gentle slopping hills rising and falling.
After about an hour of marching a spear swishes past the heads of the party landing itself stuck in a tree directly behind them. They hear a voice from atop one of the gentle slopes. Glistening sunlight pierces through the trees revealing a silhouette of a humanoid figure with long flowing hair glittering gold and a chiseled jaw. He looks down upon the party and says "This land is protected by the Greenblood Guardians. You are trespassing here and are not permitted any further. State your business!"
Twitch pulls the spear out from the tree and holds it ready, untrusting.
The party explains they are tracking a pack of wolves through the woods and the human listens dismissively. "So you wish to pass through my lands. Only members of the Greenblood Guardians may pass here. Only the bravest, the most handsome and the most skilled are allowed to join. You all, are seemingly none of the above. Twitch approaches closer to the human and offers the spear back. He hears a bit of a cadence in the humans voice, as though this speech were rehearsed.
Groundog Walk
The party is seemingly able to convince the human that they mean no harm. The human concedes and explains how to find them.
"First you must go a half mile in the other direction where you'll see a large boulder along the road. Turn left at the boulder until you hit a stream. Follow the direction of the stream for 2 more miles. Along the way you'll see a path leading upward under no circumstances should you go up the path danger and death await that way stay along the left side of the river only. Once you do you'll arrive at your destination.
The party set off. They follow his directions exactly. Upon reaching the river with the upper path, they are tempted to look at it. Instead they stick to what the human had said and walk along the river.
The left side of the river is crowded by low tangled brush. they immediately think this is fishy and jump straight into the river. Cyrell gets carried by the current and is knocked unconscious instantly. Twitch jumps in and graps cyrell but is severely hurt by a boulder he crashes into and meekly makes it to the shore. Lazlo jumps in hesitantly alongside Zephyr who is able to nimbly evade the boulders in the river and escape to a shoreline further down without problems. She saves Lazlo who would have been carried much further.
Climbing out from the river they hear a familiar voice from through the trees. The party walks in the direction and realizes it is Slappy talking to Cosmo, and they are back where they started. They camp for the night, angry.
They return to where the human figure was. This time they see an elf.
"HALT! This land is protected by the Greenblood Guardians. You are trespassing here and are not permitted any further. Only members of the Greenblood Guardians may pass here. Only the bravest, the most handsome and the most skilled are allowed to join!"
The party frustratingly confronts the elf.
"no no. Can never trust humans their memories are about as short as their lifespans. He was right, but you need to go UP the high road. Under NO circumstances should you follow along the river."
The party speeds to the river and takes the high path. As they climb up the steep path leading to the high road they round a corner and see a large boulder blocking the path. From behind it a monsterous looking figure shouts.
YOU SHOULDN'T BE HERE! GO BACK FROM WHERE YA CAME" A massive gust of wind blows and pushes the boulder knocking all but Zephyr off the rocks and down into the river where they get swept along to the same shore they were at the previous day. Zephyr holds on, but is unable to stand her ground and falls into the river below.
They sleep for the night at camp once again before returning to the hill with the elf. Only this time there is a Dwarf.
"HALT! This land is protected by the Greenblood Guardians. You are trespassing here and are not permitted any further. Only members of the Greenblood Guardians may pass here. Only the bravest, the most handsome..."
The party angrily confronts the dwarf.
"No no, you can't trust those elves they think they know everything. You need to go on the RIGHT hand side of the river, under no circumstances should you take the high road or the left side."
The party sees through the scheme and calls the dwarf out intimidating the truth out of him. He concedes, and reveals that he is in fact a firbolg named Kaevin, the same creature that blew them off the high road.
Kaevin mentions he doesn't want to see the wolves harmed, that they are a part of nature just hunting and doing what they do. The party convinces Kaevin they will do all they can to not hurt the wolves, and Kaevin leads them in the correct direction.
Part III: Leviticus
Remember him? Leviticus makes an appearance and asks Zephyr to return home with him, promising her a kingdom of her own. The party finds out that Zephyr has deeper ties to leviticus, and is actually betrothed to his son. Zephyr doesn't make a decision in that moment, unsure of why Leviticus would want her back so badly and still interested in getting to know the party. The druid calls on the powers of the forest and states that if any harm befalls the party he will personally make sure the animals of the forest spread the message of Leviticus' evil throughout the whole continent. Leviticus takes careful note of the situation, and decides that the timing isn't right.
Cyrell, terrified, explains Leviticus to Zephyr and they don't question about Leviticus' promise to Zephyr. They continue on to their quarry with the wolves.
Part IV: Dances with wolves
The party tries to negotiate, surprised that one of the wolves significantly larger than the rest can talk. The Alpha wolf explains that parties concerns are insignificant to them. He and his pack merely wish to enjoy the glory of the hunt. The party is forced into a battle with the wolves. Hunting in packs, they target Twitch who almost dies during the combat. As twitches spirit rises, seeing the battle below and the astral plane above, the spirit of the alpha wolf taunts him, telling him that he was worthless and he will enjoy feasting on his corpse.
Twitch returns to his body and uses a fireball scroll killing 3 of the wolves instantly.
Cyrell teleports Twitch's body away from the battle and Zephyr continues the assualt on the Alpha Wolf until Twitch finally lands a critical arrow shot to the head.
The remaining wolves quickly disperse or are killed by the party.
Once the alpha is killed it is revealed he was actually a Demi-Werewolf who turned out to be one of the members of the druids circle stuck in a corrupted wolf form.
Kaevin walks back into the woods, carrying the corpse of his fellow circle member telling the party they can find their own way out.
